Can you drill holes into pvc doors or is this not recommended?
i want to fit a lock on the inside of the door so the door can be opened slightly by the person inside
I think you mean a chain ..
Yes you can but get some to do it for you if you are unsure.
I done it no prob...
Drill pilot holes first then use self taping screws.
Use a drill bit thats smaller than the screws.
Use a hand screwdriver not electric screwdriver as they are crap at screwing screws.
And use star headed scews..
Under the pvc is steel, so you need a suitable drill and you fix with self-tapping screws.
Use the spy hole if fitted.
Once you drill a hole its there full time, cant put woodfilller in it
yes u can i have a chain, but put masking tape on were u r going to drill , being pvc the drill may slip, the tape will prevent this

First of all is it PVC skinned? Hollow core? Molded decoratively perhaps? Do you know if it's framed in wood? I have a real hard time believing it's a steel door.
Obviously; and in any case; did the door come with not predrilled holes? Why in the world would anyone buy a door that had no knob/latching mechanism/receiving striker plate on the frame/jamb; without knowing HOW they might be able to open or latch it closed???
I think you can assume; if it isn't a home made door; it very likely is supported enough to use a hole saw drill bit and a paddle bit or hole saw on the edge for the latching mechanism.
Most; if not all door knob types come with instructions and a template allowing proper fit.
I suggest it would behoove you to know the construction of the door; then proceed. Even hollow core/ Luan skinned doors are framed in the interior.

Do you mean like a security chain? Drill holes a bit smaller than the screw and you will have no problem. Make sure the screws have threads their whole length as a smooth shank won't hold.
