What is the safest easiest way to replace the garage door spring. The kind that is above the garage door. Its a .250 (I think) spring.
I told my husband call Lowes and they said they aren't allowed to sell the torsion springs.
They do sell extension springs but not torsion springs.
The spring is broken so theres no tension in it.

Be safe and have a pro come out and do it.If you have to much tension on it you can get badly hurt..
Because torsion springs are very dangerous to install. You have to know what you are doing. If you've never done it before, hire a professional. I've done it but I have had a lot of experience in maintenance and even then I was very nervous, but careful. If you lose you grip while tightening them you could get hurt badly. There has to be just enough tension to assist in opening the door and keeping it up without falling from it's own weight.

Now if you see something about Security+ it means you garage has rolling code. If that is true, you will need to buy one that has the same freq. If it is, there will be a button up on the door motor, mine is orange. You will need to press that button on the motor and the button on the remote to tell the garage door to accept it. They have some nice options, even key chain remotes for like $25.
Now you said it was older, so it may not have that. If there is a series of dip switches on the motor you will need to set the same dipswitchs on the remote. Again you will need to buy the right one for the door opener.

I'm building a 16×20 workshop in the back yard. There will be a 36″ steel entry door along the front wall near the left front of the addition. For security purposes, is it better to have the door open towards the inside or have it open out? I was thinking of having it open towards the inside so when fully open it would be parallel with the left side of the building. But would that make it easier for someone to kick it in? Does that not matter? I realize that if someone wants to break in they will probably find a way in. So should I just install it the way that works best with the inside shop layout? Please help I'm OCD' ing.

All external doors should open to the inside for security purposes. If not then the hinges will be on the outside, making it vulnerable.
If security is a concern, add an extra king stud to each side, and use long screws through the hinges. Get a good deadbolt.

You don't necessarily have to use your full doors you can run with you 1/2 doors provided you have the right top half to match the contour of the upper back corner of the door to the hardtop. Some YJ doors have a rounded corner and other come through with a squared off corner. You might just have to get an upper door that will match your hardtop and then just switch when you change back to the rag top.

well wouldnt a safety chain be against the rules then because its basicly the same as locking the door because you cant open it while the chains on
Council did ours with triple locks,spy holes, letter box plus
the safety chain and your council should have done the same as

Yes you can but get some to do it for you if you are unsure.
I done it no prob...
Drill pilot holes first then use self taping screws.
Use a drill bit thats smaller than the screws.
Use a hand screwdriver not electric screwdriver as they are crap at screwing screws.
And use star headed scews..
Under the pvc is steel, so you need a suitable drill and you fix with self-tapping screws.
Use the spy hole if fitted.
Once you drill a hole its there full time, cant put woodfilller in it
yes u can i have a chain, but put masking tape on were u r going to drill , being pvc the drill may slip, the tape will prevent this

First of all is it PVC skinned? Hollow core? Molded decoratively perhaps? Do you know if it's framed in wood? I have a real hard time believing it's a steel door.
Obviously; and in any case; did the door come with not predrilled holes? Why in the world would anyone buy a door that had no knob/latching mechanism/receiving striker plate on the frame/jamb; without knowing HOW they might be able to open or latch it closed???
I think you can assume; if it isn't a home made door; it very likely is supported enough to use a hole saw drill bit and a paddle bit or hole saw on the edge for the latching mechanism.
Most; if not all door knob types come with instructions and a template allowing proper fit.
I suggest it would behoove you to know the construction of the door; then proceed. Even hollow core/ Luan skinned doors are framed in the interior.

Do you mean like a security chain? Drill holes a bit smaller than the screw and you will have no problem. Make sure the screws have threads their whole length as a smooth shank won't hold.
